THE DAY OF THE ATTACK THE DRUG TRAFFICKERS FARC-EP

Toribío municipality, Cauca, Colombia, Thursday, April 14, 2005.

Not missing many minutes for the six o'clock when it began taking. I was still in bed, about to get up ... The tableteo of the guns of police officers, positioned in trenches in various parts of town, was impressive. The volume of fire was higher than in other harassments had heard of narc terrorists, I had already used despite carrying only four months in the parish.

I look at the courtyard of Cetepan (Center for Theology and Pastoral Nasa) to see how were the catechists for over an hour had been lifted. I saw the calm, some out of the shower and wash their clothes as if nothing was happening. I returned to my room to wash and dress while out the noise of war seemed to diminish.

When missing about fifteen minutes for about seven ... was José Antonio, with its tranquility and its experience in india many armed skirmishes brings the first report: "They are firing from all sides, I believe the narc-terrorists were already in town or very close ...".

I meet the father Ezio (Roattino) with its inseparable shigra (backpack) to the shoulder. "-What do I say, it is almost time for prayer, we go to the chapel." In situations like these we must also pray to the Blessed Sacrament chapel, known as "Roattina" is one of the safest places in the house.

When we were gathered there began to hear the first distant explosions ... first fell pipette. The roar was terrible ... crystals of the temple flew into a thousand pieces, and in the sacristy were heard the cries of MARÍA ESPERANZA in the kitchen. We went out to see if he was hurt, but we are reassured to see that it was only fright.

"I went to bed tired and doing nothing ...
just run and run, with the anguish of knowing that the bullets and pipettes
run more than one. "

We decided to return to the "Roattina" and there we reached the second pipette. Was much more violent than the first. The explosion shut down the lights, the earth shook as if it were an earthquake and we heard the sound of a prolonged collapse. We left the chapel. From the windows of the church, without glasses, I could peep into the courtyard of the house cural: all were ruined.

We are writing to try to protect Cetepan below the concrete to hold the second floor. The front door had been opened and some residents came looking for a solid roof over ...

There came a moment of silence and I thought we should find a way out. I went to the part and only occurred to me to seize the drugs for diabetes, the portfolio documents, silver ... and, as I found next to the drugs, also picked up the digital camera. The father took the Eucharist Ezio ...

I went with a group of people covered by a white sheet ... we took the road to San Francisco with the intention of stopping at the Cecidic (Center for Education, Training and Research in Community Development). However, on reaching the road that climbs the Coronado neighborhood, we saw that many people from above made us signs that we were there ...

There were many people ... the authorities were already communicated with the Police and the heads of drug dealers to observe the area of refuge ... and down the street we saw a number of criminals with pipas shoulder : gas cylinders to which they had implemented some fins on the rear and a cone at the front.

All wore white shirts, green trousers and I had a dark blue shirt. I asked Marta, who had come to drag her two minor children, if I was looking for terrorist or military. "No, Father, it is clear what you are the father." I stayed with the same clarita doubt if I had been recognized since the helicopter gunships that started over ...

Invited those present to enter the house of former mayor GABRIEL Pavia. Two blocks beyond the murderers had assembled one of the places from where they threw pipes. Another was on the side of the cemetery and another in which the school was badly damaged, as well as looted.

At home, Father Ezio organized prayer of the rosary. Pipette, launched by the side of the cemetery ... exploded about three blocks behind us, very close to the ramp where the other terrorists were firing ...

The story of the father Sozzi was published in the magazine of the internet Consolato and sent to friends around the world.

It was then decided to leave that place to take the path of Cecidic ... The mayor and the draft made available to the Nasa chiva for the relocation of the population ... the center was already full of people, many in front of the only satellite phone that worked trying to get in touch with the family ...

... Populate the sky and bursts of helicopters became more intense and violent. Then, two landing points, including one very close to Cecidic began to take ground troops and helicopters and download material of war .... It took less than a couple of hours to regain control of the situation.

The equipping guerrillas who had been bombing for several days and with the firm intention of destroying the people probably did not expect such a response and had to retreat, leaving behind an array of discrete pipas unused. (In the above shot, in 2002, the guerrillas bombed the police for 24 hours and no troops had landed) ...

... Anocheció and served dinner for everyone ... It was only the half past seven p.m. when I went to bed, tired and almost surrendered. And doing nothing all day ... just run and run with the anguish of knowing that the bullets and the cylinders are more than oneself.
